Using organic acids and salts to control salmonella in animal feedstuffs

Salmonella, a zoonotic organism remains a serious threat as it can cause an irreplaceable damage to the business reputation and a significant loss of profit particularly for export oriented animal/fish products.

 

A widely used strategy adopted for the control of salmonella in feed comes from the combination of heat treatment together with anti-microbial agents such as organic acid. The concept of adding organic acids are based on the notion that acid can de-contaminate the feed itself.
