Overview of training workshops for the DIFS-Live programme for the Indonesian dairy sector
The training, conducted by Mr. Tohir from Masterlab Asia (part of Trouw Nutrition), was focused on quality control of feed ingredients, including the procedures and work instructions of quality control, quality control planning, log book of quality control, standard quality of feed (SNI), methods to get feed samples, introduction of mini-lab equipment, and rapid test analysis of feed samples (moisture content; bubble test; phlorogucinol test).
Feed ration workshop
The training, conducted by Mr. Bram Wouters and Mr. Amin Sutiarto, provided an introduction on feed calculations for dairy cows based on their needs and phases of lactation. Participants carried out exercises to calculate the proportion of forage and concentrates based on current situation in the field. They were challenged to take on one case in a demo farm, where results on how the farmers were feeding their cows were shared, and then they had to come up with suggestions for the farmers to take next steps for improvement. After the training, the coop feed advisors acting as field workers gave their advice on the feeding practices. The demo farmers were then expected to follow up on the advice given by the feed advisors.
